The Pushkar Fair, or Pushkar ka Mela, is held every November in the full moon of Kartik Purnima (October-November in the Hindu calendar) in the holy city of Pushkar, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Legend has it that, on the night of the full moon, the god Brahma arose from the waters of the Pushkar Lake.
The Pushkar Fair has undergone an exciting journey, a spectacle on an epic scale that attracts more than 200,000 between camels and horses and is visited over 400,000 people over a period of about fourteen days.
A camel ride opens the doors of one of the last great traditional melas that with its colors, sounds and performances attracts people from all over Rajasthan.
The horny men buy and sell camels, cows, sheep and goats. The curious women invade the stalls, full of bracelets, clothes, textiles and fabrics.
The real India lives in the dust lanes of the market flooded with laughter and cries of the people.
